Abstract

874,568. Titanium plated with ruthenium. ENGELHARD INDUSTRIES Inc. Sept. 23, 1959 [Sept. 25, 1958], No. 32426/59. Class 41. A titanium surface is plated with ruthenium by first etching with an acid solution containing fluoride ions, and then plating with ruthenium, e.g. using as electrolyte a solution of RuNOCl3 containing sulphuric acid. The plated article may then be annealed under low pressure at 800‹ C., when a further plate of ruthenium deposited, and used as an electrode. The titanium surface may be degreased with solvents before etching. Specification 466,126 is referred to.
