Abstract
859,806. Electro-plating titanium with rhodium. ENGELHARD INDUSTRIES Inc. July 21, 1959 [July 22, 1958], No. 25019/59. Class 41 Titanium surfaces are prepared for electroplating with rhodium, by treating with an acid solution of fluoride ions. From example, HF is mixed with ammonia solution and when cool H 3 PO 4 is added, to form a solution containing some free HF. An electro-potential of 4U may be applied during cleaning if necessary. A pretreatment with a de-greasing solvent may also be applied. After cleaning free from oxide scale, the titanium article is plated preferably with rhodium sulphate electrolyte, to which rhodium phosphate may also be added. The plated article is then annealed by heating at 800‹C. in vacuo, and may be used as an anode.
