Abstract

1396191 Enamels and enamelling BAYER RICKMANN GmbH 20 July 1972 [27 July 1971] 34027/72 Heading C1M [Also in Division C7] Steel plate is treated, e.g. as a pretreatment for direct-on white enamelling, by (a) optional electrolytic degreasing, (b) electrolytic pickling at a current density greater than 20 but not greater than 40 amps./dm<SP>2</SP>. in an acid solution containing sulphate and/or phosphate ions at 40‹ to 80‹ C. for a period of from 10 seconds to 3 minutes, (c) electrodepositing Ni or Ni and Co together and (d) optionally providing a watersoluble protective layer of a polyphosphate and/ or an organic film-forming polymer. Enamel frits may be applied electrostatically or electrophoretically. In the example, there is directon white enamelling with a B-Ti-enamel of the following composition by weight: 38À3% of SiO 2 ; 0À3% of Al 2 O 3 ; 21À8% of B 2 O 3 ; 15À3% of alkali metal oxide; 2À0% of fluorine; 20À4% of TiO 2 ; 0À2 of MgO; and 3À3% of P 2 O 5 .
