Abstract
894,261. Seating anodized aluminium surfaces. COHN, C. C., and COHN, S. L., [trading as COLONIAL ALLOYS CO.]. April 21, 1960 [Aug. 26, 1959], No. 14106/60. Class 41. Anodized aluminium surfaces are sealed and rendered resistant to corrosion, by first treating with a solution containing a salt of a weak metallic base, whereby an insoluble metal compound is deposited on the oxide coating, and then treating with sodium silicate solution, preferably having an SiO2: Na2O content ratio of at least 2 : 1. The metal salts are preferably nickel or cobalt acetate, and used at a pH of 4.5 to 7.5 and above 40‹ C. The anodized surface may be first dyed. The final coating may be further treated with acid or an alkali, preferably dilute NaOH or H3PO4. The anodizing step may be effected by any method, e.g. H2O4. The treatment with sodium silicate solution may be electrolytic or by dipping into the solution. Specification 413,814 and U.S.A. Specifications 1,946,153 and 2,161,636 are referred to.
