Abstract

900,825. Modifying metallic surfaces. AMCHEM PRODUCTS Inc. May 1, 1961 [May 3, 1960], No. 15746/61. Class 82 (2). A process for producing chemical conversion coatings on zirconium or zirconium alloys uses solutions containing phosphoric and fluoboric acids in a total concentration of 10-150 mls. per litre and at a ratio of 0.5-10 to 1. The pH of the solutions is between 0.6 and 2.00. The addition of 0.01-0.2% w./v. of stannous or molybdenum ions is stated to be beneficial. After rinsing the coating may be subjected to an aftertreatment in a hot alkaline bath containing for example alkali metal ortho or metasilicates or trisodium orthophosphate.
