Abstract

770,722. Electroplating ferrous metal with chromium. STEEL VAT CORPORATION. May 2, 1955 [May 3, 1954], No. 12651/55. Class 41. [Also in Group XX] A 58 Î 27 in. bright-finished cold-rolled steel plate is cleaned with pumice and hydrochloric acid, rinsed and plated in a bath containing 30 to 50 ounces chromic acid and 0.3 to 0.5 ounces of sulphuric acid at 125‹ F. in four treatments of about a minute each, using current rising from 5000 amps for the first treatment to 6500 amps for the last with a 10 second interval between the treatments, and a voltage of about 6 to yield a dull finish. Optionally the current may initially be reversed so that the plate is first used as anode. Specification 770,340, [Group XX], is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 483,349, [Group XVI].
