Abstract
<PICT:0991310/C6-C7/1> Steel strip or wire is plated with chromium in a series of plating baths, the plated strip being subject at entry to the second and subsequent baths to cathodic treatment at low C.D. of 0.1-10 A.S.Dm. Strip passes from a coiler 1 through a welding stage 3, and electrolytic cleaning stages 5 (degreasing), 6 (washing), 7 (pickling) to the first plating bath 9, and then through subsequent plating baths 12, 15, 16, 17, between each of which is mounted a screen member A, B, C, D, which reduces the current density applied to the strip which is made cathodic. The strip then passes through a washing stage 18, hot water wash 20, and oil spray 21; finally a dryer 23 and re-coiler 25. The screen members A-D are each formed of a perforated sleeve of a synthetic resin through which the strip passes.
