845,698. Electrolytic capacitors. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, SECRETARY OF THE ARMY. Oct. 2, 1958 [Oct. 3, 1957], No. 34173/58. Class 37. A solid electrolyte capacitor comprises a plain or etched aluminium foil electrode 1 with anodised surfaces 2, and a solid layer of manganese dioxide electrolyte 3. A second electrode is provided by silver coating 4 or a layer of graphite covered with silver, mechanical protection being afforded by tin foil 5 and copper sheet 8. An insulator 7 e.g. paper prevents short-circuiting of electrodes 1, 4. The layer 3 is formed by decomposing successive films of manganous-nitrate solution. The capacitor may be flat or rolled and encapsulated in epoxy resin.
