Abstract

898,453. Latches. GENERAL MOTORS Ltd. May 7, 1959 [June 10, 1958], No. 18477/58. Class 44. In a combined door handle and push-button mechanism for door latch operation in which the push button is mounted so that it is movable in the direction along the length of the handle, a rocker 12, 13 for transmitting push-button thrust is journalled upon the exterior of a cylinder 10 the axis of which is transverse to the handle. As shown, the cylinder 10 is open at each end and carries a barrel lock 11. The rocker 12, 13 includes a sleeve 14 by whtich it is journalled on the cylinder and when the push-button is pressed bears against and moves a lever 15 forming part of the latch which effects release of the latch bolt. The barrel lock includes an extension 16a which is fixed to a lever 17 which may be connected through a rod 18 to locking mechanism of the latch. The barrel lock may be dispensed with in which case the cylinder 10 is made solid or if hollow, is plugged. Specification 898,454 is referred to.
