Abstract
1,014,173. Latches. MICRO & PRECISION MOULDINGS (CHELTENHAM) Ltd. April 25, 1962 [May 16, 1961], No. 17713/61. Heading E2A. A door latch comprises a shaft 15, a release member 8 bearing projections 10 which in operation engage apertures 12 of the spring loaded bolt 4, is characterized in that the shaft 15 can be axially displaced from one side of the door to a locking position in which rotation of a handle 20 on the opposite side of the door is not prevented but is ineffective to release the latch and is provided with retaining means 32 which retain the shaft in the locking position, such means being movable by the bolt, on releasing movement of the latter, to free the shaft. In use, the shaft 15 is displaced by means of a projection 23 to the locked position where a rounded portion 30 engages the square aperture 26 of a drive plate 27, whereupon the retaining means or detent bolt 32 springs into an arcuate notch 34 of the shaft 15 to lock the shaft in position. Further rotation of the handle 19 forces the shaft 15 from the detent bolt and it returns to its operative position. In a modification Fig. 6 (not shown) one end of the shaft extends through the handle forming a pushbutton. The bolt is formed with a steep bevel 39.
