Abstract

1,116,285. Latches. MICRO & PRECISION MOULDINGS (CHELTENHAM) Ltd. 30 Jan., 1967 [12 Feb., 1966], No. 6299/66. Heading E2A. A door latch comprises an operating shaft 18, a release element 16 coupled to a follower member 14 having a pair of ears one of which in operation engages in an aperture in one arm of a pair of resilient arms integral with a spring loaded bolt 5, the shaft 18 being displaceable from one side of the door to a locking position in which rotation of a handle 52 on the opposite side of the door is not prevented but is ineffective to release the latch, the pair of resilient arms retains the shaft in locking position and the arms being movable by the bolt on releasing movement of the latter to free the shaft. The shaft 18 is displaced by means of a lateral projection on the shaft or by a press button to the locked position where a round portion 53 of the shaft engages in a square aperture of a drive plate 51 whereupon the resilient arms engage in notches 44 on the shaft to lock the shaft in position. Further rotation of the handle forces the shaft from the resilient arms and it returns to its operative position. The latch housing has apertures in which joined pegs 22 on the release member 16 engage with play. The H shaped release member has a square aperture for the shaft 18. The latch housing has bores 10 for projections on an abutment wall 7 of a moulding 6 containing the release member and follower member. The wall 7 has end slots to accommodate slotted portions of the pair of resilient bolt arms. The moulding has slots 12 in which stub shafts 13 of the follower member 14 engage. The bolt may be made of plastics.
