Abstract

1,175,663. Handle and lock assembly. REGENT LOCK CO. Ltd. 24 Jan., 1967 [24 Jan., 1966], No. 3143/66. Heading E2A. A handle 1 includes in its stem 1a a latch bolt 10, which engages in an opening 11a formed in a cylindrical 3 of an escutcheon 2, thus retaining the handle flush within a recess of the escutcheon. Key operation of a barrel lock 7 releases the latch bolt 10 and the handle is moved by spring 13 to a projected position wherein the handle is free of the recess. The handle stem 1a is secured through a rod 12 to a member 14 formed with a lug 18. In the projected position of the handle, this lug 18 fits within a recessed end portion 17 of a sleeve 4. Rotation of the handle thus rotates the sleeve 4, which carries door-bolt operating rods 6. The sleeve 4 is prevented from axial movement on the cylindrical housing 3 by a screw 15 engaging in a part-circumferential slot 16. In a modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), the screw 15 is retained in a small axial extension to slot 16 when the handle is flush within the escutcheon recess, thus positively securing the door bolts.
