In a push-button assembly for use in releasing a door fastening device, the push-button 7 thereof is mounted within and in frictional engagement with a sleeve 6 which is slidably mounted within the pushbutton housing 1 and spring-loaded outwardly thereof to a normal resting position. As shown, in which the housing 1 is recessed into a door handle 2 on a door panel 3, and in which a bore 4 of the housing is aligned with a latch releasing lever 5, the sleeve 6 is split to form a gap 8 therein and a locating tongue 9 is bent inwardly of the sleeve to project into an axially directed slot 10 in the push-button 7, and a tongue 12 projects outwardly into an axially directed slot 13 through the wall of the housing 1. The tongues 9 and 12 angularly locates the push-button within the housing. The pushbutton is loaded by a spring 14. A key-operated locking device 17 within the push-button includes a hollow stem 18 having a central cut-out section providing abutments 21 for projections 20 on a shaft 22 of the locking device by means of which the stem 18 may be turned, with lost motion, by the shaft 22 to a locked or unlocked position. In the latter position a slot 24 in the stem 18 is aligned with a projection 25 from an end portion 16 of the housing so that a blocking face 26 will not obstruct axial movement of the pushbutton. In the locking position of the stem 18 a face 28 is aligned with the face 26. A further slot 29 is aligned with the lever 5 to prevent actuation thereof if the push-button is forced. A lever 27 of an inside locking means engages between two lugs 30 on the stem 18 by means of which the latter may be turned to engage or disengage the stem 18 and hence the pushbutton from the lever 5.
