Abstract

825,974. Wrenches. ROSSER & RUSSELL Ltd. Feb. 17, 1958 [NIay 23, 1957], No. 16417/57. Class 61. A chuck key of the type comprising a shank 1 having one end 3 provided with or adapted to receive a handle and the other end 2 adapted to engage a socketed member, is provided with an axially slidable sleeve 5 urged by a compression spring 8 to a position where it at least partially shrouds the operating end 2 of the key to prevent engagement of the key unless an axial pressure of the key shank is applied and maintained by the operator. A dowel 6 secured to the shank engages in a slot 7 in the sleeve to allow limited sliding movement. In a modification the sleeve is replaced by a spring loaded plunger accommodated in the hollow operating end of the key.
