Abstract

896,011. Cartons. WADDINGTON Ltd., JOHN, GAUNT, T. A., and YOUNG, L. C. Sept. 16, 1958 [June 26, 1957], No. 20165/57. Class 18. A carton made by forming a tube from a carton blank and consisting of an outer cardboard casing and an inner layer of heatsealable material 23, has a primary closure providing a stable base for the carton and formed by interfolding and heat-sealing the cardboard and the heat sealable material. In the embodiment shown the heat-sealable material is a tube 23 of polythene adhered to panels 16, 17 of the blank 10. The primary closure is formed by pushing the centres of the bottom ends of panels 15, 17 towards each other to bend the cardboard about crease lines 21, 22, flattening the bottom ends of panels 16, 18 on to panels 15, 17 and applying heat and pressure to the bottom of the carton. The top closure is of the " peak-roof " type and is sealed by applying heat and pressure so that the tube 23 is sealed to itself and also to the cardboard. In a modification the polythene may be in the form of a flat sheet secured to the blank. The sides of the carton may slightly taper towards the bottom.
