Abstract

959,306. Lined cartons. G. V. FORREST. Oct. 11, 1962 [Oct. 25, 1961], No. 38155/61. Heading B8P. A packaging container comprises an inner closed receptacle 1 of flexible sheet material with a filling and dispensing device 6 and a rigid outer carton 2 enclosing said receptacle, the receptacle and carton being collapsible to a flat laminate with the side walls 7, 3 of the carton and receptacle which stand face to face being adhered to one another at least at the corners. The inner receptacle 1 is made of two blanks of heat-sealable sheet material with symmetrical triangular end parts 4, the sheets being sealed together round their periphery. The outer carton is formed from a single sheet of cardboard having four panels 7 enfolded round the inner receptacle and secured by adhesive tape 9. One layer of the upper end flap 4 of the inner receptacle has an opening at which the dispensing device is attached, the device then passes through a circular opening 6 in one of the end flaps 8<SP>1</SP>, adjacent flaps 8<SP>11</SP> and 8<SP>111</SP> being recessed at portions 10 and 11 to receive the device when the carton is erected. Pressure exerted inwardly on the two lateral edges 19 erect the carton forcing the panels 7 apart, the inner receptacle also being opened up and the triangular end parts 4 opened to form a peak 21 which is forced downwards and inwards in the case of the upper end of the receptacle due to the engagement between the nozzle 12 and the flap 8<SP>1</SP>. The bottom end of the container can be similarly dealt with. The joining edges of the end flaps 8 are sealed together by strips of adhesive paper. The nozzle is closed by a screw-on cap and the spout 16 pushed round into the recess 11. The blank of the inner receptacle may be modified by foreshortening the triangle at the tip to define a more obtuse angle at the apex forming pentagonal shaped end flaps. In erection, the inner carton forms two peaks, each of which bends over outwards still leaving the interior of the receptacle clear.
