Abstract

879,501. Cartons. BISCUIT-EN CHOCOLADEFABRIEK VICTORIA N.V. March 24, 1960, No. 10426/60. Classes 18 and 94(1). A tray-like box is formed from a blank 1, which has score lines 3 outlining the box base and further score lines 5, which determine the box sides and corner gussets. Flaps 2 extending from the wall portions terminate at a distance from the apices of the gussets at least equal to the height of the sides. An extension 6, which may be semi-circular, is preferably provided at one side of the blank. The blank is coated with a heat-sealing layer and the sides are then bent up through 90, degrees with the sealing layer as the inner surface. During the folding, the corner portions are folded along lines 4 and held outside the box. The flaps 2 are then bent outwards through 90 degrees and the box, after filling with foodstuffs or luxuries, is closed by placing a sheet 7, preferably of transparent foil, over the top. The pairs of triangular corner pieces are heat-sealed together, e.g. by rollers, and the sheet 7 is sealed to the flaps 2 by the same means. Extension 6, which carries information, is then bent over the package. The filled boxes may be obtained by a contiunous process, using a roller or strip of paper or synthetic resin, in which the shaping, filling and sealing of the boxes takes place continuously.
