Abstract

1409291 Blanks; closing filled cartons KEYOLOK CO Inc 7 Sept 1972 [19 Jan 1972 28 Jan 1972] 2518/72 and 3995/72 Heading B8P A blank comprises a substrate to which is adhered a sheeting such that when the blank is folded to form a carton, with the sheeting on the outside, portions of the sheeting adjacent the corners and edges of the carton can be de. laminated using heat and then sealed to the sheeting on an adjacent blank portion so as to cover and seal the edge or corner. The blank comprises a substrate of board or stiff paper adhered, by microcrystalline wax, to a sheeting of polyethylene, aluminium foil, polypropylene, PUDC, or coated papers or laminates of these materials. The blank described has a base panel 8, a top panel 11 with a tucking flap 12, front and back panels 9 and 10, side panels 13 with tucking flaps 14, and gusset forming portions 15. To form the blank into a carton a heated PTFE coated block 100 is pressed against each gusset portion 15 so as to delaminate and remove a portion 20 of sheeting defined by a score line. The blank is then pressed into a female die member by a male member (21, Fig. 4) so as to form a tray. During this pressing, portions of the gussets 15 defined be score lines 17, 18, 19 are delaminated from the substrate. The stripped substrate portions are folded to lie along the inside of the side panels 13, whilst the stripped sheeting 23 is folded on to and sealed to the exterior of the side panels 13. The tray is then filled and moved in a first direction (the single arrow) by spaced pushers. During this movement the tucking flaps 14 are folded outwardly, the sheeting 14D thereon is delaminated from the substrate which is then folded inwardly. The tray is then moved in a second direction (the double arrows) during which the sheeting 12D on the tucking flap 12 is delaminated from the substrate, the top panel 11 then being down folded with the substrate of the panel 12 being tucked inside the front panel 9, and the sneet 12 being sealed to the exterior of the front panel 9. The tray is then moved in a third direction (the treble arrows) during which the sheeting 140 is folded on to and sealed to the exterior of the cover panel 11.
