Abstract

1479339 Cartons for liquids EX-CELL-O CORP 16 Dec 1974 [18 Dec 1973] 54214/74 Heading B8P A coated paperboard container folded to rectangular tubular form from the blank shown in Fig. 1 has a pouring spout formed of panels 42, 63, 64, 68, 69 and a flat top formed by closure panels 47, 60. The spout is released by first tearing away a strip 53 from the outer top panel. Panels 68, 69 and 78, 79 are sealed to panels 51, 62 below the top edges of panels 68, 69, 78, 79 preferably by sonic sealing to provide a liquid-tight central sealing rib 82 and subsequently the tear strip 53 and adjacent portion 54 and folded down on the container top and the portion 54 is sealed, preferably by heat sealing, to closure panel 60. In modifications, the tear strip may extend only part-way across the width of the container and may or may not be removed completely from the opened container. Means to facilitate grasping the end of the tear strip may be provided.
