Abstract

1,273,350. Making lined cartons. KEYOLOK Co., Inc. 4 Sept., 1969 [17 Sept., 1968], No. 44074/68. Heading B5D. [Also in Division B8] A laminated carton blank formed from a layer of board (1 Fig. 1) attached to a heatsealable lining sheet (3 Figure 1) by a wax layer (2 Fig. 1) is folded to form a rectangular tube. The folding is effected by guide rails 23-26 curved so as to fold the blank into the conformation shown in Fig. 6 as it proceeds along a track 18. Two heating devices 21, 22 seal the lining sheet on a sealing flap 5 to the lining sheet on a side panel 9 and delaminate the lining sheet from the lowermost area of the side panel 9. The folded blank is then opened out by guide rails (27-32, Fig. 7) and the projecting board portion of the side panel 9 is coated with adhesive by an applicator 34; as the folded blank proceeds the guide rails 28, 30-32 it is folded into a substantially flat condition as shown in Fig. 8, hence adhering the side panel 9 to the sealing flap 5. The so formed rectangular tubular structure is then opened out and one end of the tubular structure closed by first temporary closing joined scored end panels 34 to form web gussets (14, 37 Fig. 5A) having a fin extension (39, 40 Fig. 5A) and applying heat to the end panels 34 and gussets 37 so that the lining sheet 3 is heat sealed to itself and also released from the board (1). The board (1) is then unfolded and stripped from the lining sheet 3, as shown in Fig. 10, and cut at the corners to form four flaps which are refolded to complete the closure of one end of the tubular structure.
