Abstract

1,202,565. Cartons. INTERNATIONAL PAPER CO. 21 Nov., 1967 [7 Dec., 1966], No. 52834/67. Heading B8P. The bottom of a tubular carton formed from a scored blank 110 comprises major flaps 111c, 113c connected by gussets 142, 143, 152, 153 to minor flaps 112c, 114c of a length which is 20- 75% that of the major flaps, while, a sealing seam 115b has a flap 115c which extends beyond the edge of the minor flap 114c. When the carton is erected, the minor flaps 112c, &c. lie beneath the major flaps 111c, 113c, Fig. 4B, and the major flaps overlap each other without extending into the slots formed by the gussets 142, &c. The panels 111a, &c. at the other end of the blank form a gabled top to the carton. The blank 110 may be of thermoplastic coated paperboard. Preferred ratios of minor flap length/major flap length for different sized cartons are given. A known blank (10), Fig. 1A (not shown), is also described, in which the minor flaps (12c), (14c) are very little shorter than the major flaps.
