Abstract

1,111,211. Cartons. GENERAL FOODS CORPORATION. 27 Aug., 1965 [3 Nov., 1964], No. 37055/65. Heading B8P. A carton blank of semi-rigid material comprises side panels 11, 21, end panels 17, 25, bottom closure flaps 15, 19, 23, 27, a first top closure flap 31 containing an orifice defining portion, a second top closure flap 33 and an end closure flap 36. When the carton is folded and glued together, the flap 36 overlies the top of the end panel 17 whilst the flap 33 covers the flap 31. Lines of weakness 45, 46 define a tear strip, the portion 43 of which is lightly secured to the panel 17 by glue spots 54. A semi-circular opening enables the tear strip to be gripped and torn along the lines of weakness 45, 46 to expose a pouring aperture defined by lines 37, 38, 39 and 41. The tapered end of the tear strip, which hinges along its back edge 44, is inserted into a slot 52 to reseal the carton. In a modification, the orifice defining portion is not cut away but comprises a part of the flap 31 defined by weakened lines and glued to the tear strip so that the pouring aperture is formed on lifting the tear strip.
