957,512. Cartons for granular materials. H. LANDERER. May 25, 1960 [March 25, 1960], No. 18415/60. Heading B8P. A carton for granular materials having a repeatedly closable delivery opening at one end is made by folding a blank to form side walls 1, 2 separated by narrow end walls 5, 6, flaps 3, 4, 7, 8 integral with the walls being bent over to provide a multi-ply closure. In the flaps 3, 4, joined to walls 1, 2 respectively, are perforations 12 outlining removable portions 11 which register with an opening 13 in the flap 8, when the flap 8 is sandwiched between the flaps 3, 4. Opening 13, which is larger than the parts 11, is closed by a slide 15 formed by punching the opening 13 and part of the wall 6. The punched edges 16, 17 of the slide are discontinuous at points 19 before the carton is first opened. To maintain the closure of the carton beneath the part 18 of the slide, a further flap 20, 21 integral with the wall 1 is provided, the flap part 21 underlying the slide part 18, and the part 20 being provided with an opening 10<SP>1</SP> which registers with the openings 10. A pull-out tab 23 may be provided on the slide and a stop 24, Fig. 4, coacting with an abutment 35 may prevent its complete withdrawal. Adhesive may be used to secure the flaps together.
