Abstract
1,081,970. Flip-top carton. BROWN CO. June 15, 1966 [June 16, 1965], No. 26738/66. Heading B8P. An integral blank, for erection into a " flip top " carton has side flaps 7, Fig. 1, with recesses 19, to allow adhesive contact between side panel 5, and outer side flap 6 on erection, flap 6 then overlying flap 7. The hinged lid 4 is adhesively connected to the front wall 2, of the carton along edge portion 17, and a similar connection is effected between tabs 10, and side flap 7. The lid is opened by removing the tear strip 15 and breaking fracture lines 11. Recess 19 may be of rectangular contour, and recess 20 is formed to accommodate an adjacent inverted blank. Instead of the tearstrip there may be a severance line (21), Fig. 6, connecting the sealed lid edge to the wall 2, the sealing adhesive being applied in zones to the wall around which there may be scores (24), Fig. 7, to prevent the wall from being torn when the edge is removed. The carton may be made from paperboard coated with plastics or wax and an adhesive which may be heat sealable is carried on the carton blank. As an alternative to tab 10 there may be a serrated area (23), Fig. 7, along the side of the lid 9, which overlies flaps 6, 7, and is adhered to them.
