Abstract

948,279. Lined boxes. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. Aug. 9, 1962 [Aug. 16, 1961], No. 29634/61. Heading B8P. [Also in Division B2] A cardboard carton blank has the inner side coated with polyethylene or polypropylene, the coating being thicker in regions 19 where the blank is to be heat-sealed. The flaps 10 and 12 of the blank have creases 14, 15 and 16, and the side 4 has a crease 9a along which the flap 9 is bent back against the outside of the side 4 before the blank is made into a tube by heatsealing the sections 19 together. The top of the carton may be closed by flaps which will form a gable type closure. The bottom of the container is closed by folding inwards the flaps 10, 11, 12, 13 and 13a to form a bellows fold, as shown in Fig. 3. There is a space 21 between the outer sides of the fold and after heatsealing the quantity of coating 19 on the blank is sufficient to fill the gap forming an air-tight seam. The coating is extruded on to the blanks by first making a coating 18 and then making a further coating 19 on the parts where necessary.
