Abstract

1410113 Lined cartons; packaging CHRISTENSSONS MASKINER & PATENTER AB 12 Jan 1973 [24 Jan 1972] 1680/73 Headings B8P and B8C A carton erected from a blank and tubular lining, Fig. 1, and including an individual top closure flap 31 and three connected and creased top closure flaps 28-30, is closed at its top end by forming a fin seal 42 in the lining 10, folding the top closure flaps 28 and 30 inwardly to produce a slot in which the fin seal 42 is clamped, simultaneously folding the top closure flap 29 outwardly about crease 34 and on to itself along creases 32, 33 to enclose an ear which has been formed in the lining, folding the top closure flap 31 and an associated ear 44 of the lining on to the top closure flaps 28, 30 and folding the top closure flap 29 and the enclosed lining ear against side wall 13 or the top of the carton. The top closure flap 29 is held in position by a glued piece of paper (49, Fig. 6, not shown). The carton is opened by removing the piece of paper (49) and tearing-off the exposed portion of the fin seal; which latter operation is facilitated by a cut 48 in the fin seal. A pouring spout is produced, Fig. 7 (not shown), in the opened carton by inwardly pressing the upper regions of opposed side walls 12, 14 to cause bending about creases 32, 33, 35-38. The lining is adhered to the top closure flaps 28-30. The cardboard blank may be covered by polyethylene and the lining may be polyethylene coated aluminium foil.
