Class 146(3) [Also in Group V] A fountain pen comprises a barrel, a reservoir and a nib inlaid in the exterior surface of the barrel, the nib extending forwards from the barrel and terminating in a writing tip. The barrel consists of two parts 11, 12 connected by a threaded sleeve 13. The nib 14 is of the shape shown in Fig. 7 and includes a rear portion 15 having an aperture 19 therein and lugs 20, 20a, 21 21a. The nib and barrel part 12 are secured together at the time of moulding the barrel part (see Group V) which consists of a substantially rigid plastic material; the lugs on the nib are turned down and embedded in the barrel and the plastic material enters the aperture 19 in the nib. A layer of adhesive may be inserted between the nib and the barrel to compensate for any contraction of the barrel part during cooling after the moulding operation. A feed bar 26 is located in the barrel part 12, being of non-circular section so as to co-operate with flat surfaces on the interior of the barrel part and thereby ensure that a capillary slot 27 in the feed bar underlies a hole 17 and slit 18 in the forwardly extending part of the nib. The feed bar has an axial bore which slidably accommodates a filling tube 24. The tube 24 is secured at its rear end to a reservoir 24 which can be moved longitudinally in the barrel between the position shown and a position in which the front end of the tube 24 lies in front of the writing tip of the nib 14 for filling purposes. A plastic or rubber gasket 30 is mounted to the rear of the feed bar 26. Ink is fed from the reservoir to the nib in the manner described in Specification 730,295. A point-protecting cap (not shown) is secured to the barrel by means of projections 37 on a ring 35 mounted in a recess 36 at the rear end of the barrel part 12. The projections 37 extend radially outwards through holes in the barrel and yieldingly engage the inner surface of the cap.
