Abstract

851,586. Reservoir pens. CUSHMAN & DENISON CO. Ltd. April 30, 1959, No. 14805/59. Class 146(3). A reservoir pen comprises a barrel 10 constituting the ink reservoir and having frictionally held within its forward end a sealing member 11 of moulded plastic formed with an aperture and constituting a valve seat, a valve 14 normally urged forwards towards the seat by a compression spring 17, and a nib holder 19 secured to the front end of the barrel and having a passage in which is slidably accommodated a. fibrous nib 23 not connected to the valve but having its rear end in abutting relation therewith. The barrel 10 is of aluminium and the parts 11, 19 may be of polythene. The valve 14 consists of a screw whose head 15 co-operates with the bevelled edge 13 of the aperture in the sealing member 11. The fibrous nib 23 has a circular washer 24 secured to its rear end which abuts against the front end of the screw. The nib is replenished with ink by pressing it inwards so that the screw head 15 is lifted off its seat 13 and ink is allowed to flow from the reservoir through the aperture in the sealing member 11. A cap 26 is provided for the nib. Instead of having the washer 24 the nib may be formed with an integral cross-piece. The valve 14 may consist of a plain counter-sunk head rivet instead of a screw in which case the spring 17 is secured thereto by a spring clip. A plug may be provided at the rear end of the barrel so as to enable the reservoir to be refilled. Specification 740,802 is referred to.
