Abstract
822,259. Reservoir pens. FABERCASTELL, R. G., [trading as FABERCASTELL, A. W. [Firm of]], Feb. 13, 1958 [Feb. 14, 1957], No. 4812/58. Addition to 810,719. Class 146(3) A ball-point pen according to the parent Specification also comprises a second sleeve surrounding the ink-cartridge and having a latch movable transversely of the axis of the cartridge, the latch being engageable with a holding member affixed to the casing to hold the cartridge in the retracted position. The pen barrel is formed in three parts 2, 35, 36, parts 35, 36 being joined together by a threaded sleeve 37. The inkcartridge 7 is slidable in the barrel, being urged to a projected position in relation thereto by a spring 12 which thrusts against a flange 40 on a tube 14 which surrounds the cartridge and itself abuts a collar 39 thereon. A sleeve 3 surrounds the front end of the writing unit and is slidable relatively thereto and to the barrel, being urged to the position shown by a spring 4 weaker than the spring 12 and acting between a collar 8 on the sleeve 3 and a flange 38<SP>1</SP> on the second sleeve 38. The sleeve 38 abuts with its rear end the collar 39 and has fixed thereto a leaf spring 41 having an offset portion at its rear end which is biased radially outwards from the cartridge. The writing point is retracted from the position shown by pressing it against a supporting surface whereby the cartridge 7 and the sleeve 3 are moved back relatively to the barrel until the offset portively to the barrel until the offset portion of the leaf spring 41 engages behind the threaded sleeve 37. On raising the pen from the surface the cartridge remains latched in that position while the sleeve 3 slides forwards under the bias of the spring 4 to enclose the writing tip. A pressbutton 42 positioned in an aperture in the barrel can be pressed inwards to disengage the spring 41 from the rear end of the sleeve 37 so that the cartridge is again projected by the spring 12.
