Abstract
979,882. Retractable ball-point pens. TERMOPLASTIC S.r.1. Dec. 20, 1963 [Dec. 24, 1962; July 19, 1963], No. 50357/63. Heading B6P. In a retractable ball-point pen the plunger 5 is small enough to be moved radially as well as longitudinally within the barrel 1. A leaf-spring 7 biases the plunger 5 against one side of the barrel where a tooth member 6 can engage within an aperture 3 in the barrel 1 to hold the pen in the projected position, against the bias of a synthetic plastic spring 8 which may be provided integrally with the plunger 5. A second aperture 2, Fig. 1, may be provided in the pen barrel to accommodate the tooth 6 and retain the plunger 5 in the retracted position. A third aperture 4 may also be provided to accommodate a lip 7a of the spring 7 in the retracted position. It is, however, necessary to have at least one of the apertures 2 or 4 to prevent the plunger 5 escaping from the rear end of the barrel 1. In further embodiments, one of which is shown in Fig. 6, a jacket clip 10 is attached to the plunger 5. In the embodiment shown, Fig. 6, provision is made, namely the knurled surface 12, to enable the plunger 5 to be projected and retracted when a return spring 8 is not provided.
