Abstract
902,875. Reservoir pens. ROLL-TIP (ENGLAND) Ltd. Nov. 24, 1959 [Feb. 20, 1959], No. 5965/59. Class 146 (3). In a retractable ball-point pen a plunger of synthetic plastic material, e.g. polythene, attached to the rear end of the writing unit 8 and projecting from the rear end of the barrel has an integral flexible section 12 between its projecting end and the writing unit, which is transversely bowed and has a lateral projection which engages a longitudinal slot 6 in the barrel to retain the ball-point in its writing positior. Two steps 4, 5 which are formed on the lateral projection on the section 12 co-operate in turn with the rear end of the slot 6 to maintain the writing unit in projected and retracted positions respectively. From the retracted position shown the plunger is depressed to project the writing unit against the rearward bias of a spring 7. As the section 12 bows under the pressure the step 4 engages the rear end of the slot 6 and latches the parts in the projected position. The parts are released for retraction by the spring 7 by inward depression of the lateral projection on which are formed the steps 4, 5.
