Abstract

743,948. Spring clips; automatic catches. ZANG, C. Oct. 6, 1954 [Oct. 6, 1953], No. 27419/53. Class 44. [Also in Group XV] A retractable pen, e.g. a ball-point pen, has a pocket clip which locks the pen in writing position. As shown, a ball-point pen 4 having a ball-point 5 is urged into retracted position by a spring 7. A pocket clip 10 has a portion 11 which projects through diametrically opposed slots 9 in a cap 2 screwed to a barrel 1. The portion 11 has a slot 13 surrounding a plunger 14 projecting beyond the cap 3. The clip 10 has a spring tongue 12 engaging the cap 3, such that the portion 11 is urged outwardly of the cap 3 to engage a groove 15 in the plunger 14 when the ball-point 5 is in waiting position. Pressure on the clip 10 releases the pen 4 from its writing position. In a modification, the spring tongue may be dispensed with by bending the free end of the portion 11 against the inside of the cap 3.
