In a reservoir pen having internally a tubular stem communicating with a main reservoir and extending as a tubular spigot surrounding and holding a nib and feed bar, the outer periphery of the spigot or the inner. surrounding surface of a nose surrounding the spigot is formed with a capillary channel or channels communicating with and extending from the convex back of the nib to an air vent to serve as an overflow ink reservoir. As shown, a tubular stem a has a spigot a<SP>1</SP> provided with longitudinal channels g opening into an annular channel h vented by a hole i in the nose d. Ink arriving at the forward end of the nib e in excess of that required for writing reaches the channels g through a space j, air being displaced from the channels g through the hole i. On cessation of the excess flow, ink is withdrawn from the channels g before further ink is withdrawn from the main ink reservoir. The channels g may alternatively be provided in the inner surface of the nose. Instead of longitudinal channels a continuous helical channel or channels may be provided. The Provisional Specification describes also a construction wherein a channel or channels are provided on the co-operating surfaces of both the spigot and nose. Alternatively, longitudinal channels may be provided of unequal length. The pen components, apart from the nib, may be of polystyrene, while the feed-bar may be of resilient material, such as polythene, in accordance with Specification 712,931.
