Abstract
692,212. Reservoir pens. MABLE, TODD & CO., Ltd., and SEARS, E. S. Sept. 22, 1950. No. 23307/50. Class 146 (iii). In a ball-pointed reservoir pen fitted with self-filling means the writing ball is positioned between a front seating and the end of a rod forming a back seating for the ball, the rod being adjustable axially whereby the thickness of the ink trace can be varied. As shown the body section 1. is adapted to receive a rubber ink sac at 13a, a pen barrel at 12a, and has bores at 8, 8a, and 10, and is screwthreaded at 11, to receive the point section 2. The section 2 has a conical part 18, a collar 16 which forms an airtight joint with a shoulder 9 in the section 1, and has a main bore 19 to receive a feed-bar 7, and a smaller bore 20 which receives a metal housing 3 for a writing ball 4. The feed-bar 7 has a rod 5 therein which is maintained in contact with the ball 4 by an adjusting-screw 6 of very fine pitch. The housing 3, rod 5, and screw 6 are preferably of non-corrosive metal. To fill the reservoir, the point is immersed in a supply of ink, the sac deflated and then allowed to inflate, and ink passes Àthrough the annular gap 27, an axial aperture 21 in the collar 16, a radial aperture 22 in a recessed part of the section 2, and a longitudinal groove 24 in the feed-bar 7.
