880,729. Exhaust silencers. KYLE, J. Dec. 11, 1959, No. 42296/59. Class 7(2). A silencer for internal combustion engines comprises a first hollow pyramid 1 mounted in a shell 2, and a second hollow pyramid 4 mounted at the tail-end of an exhaust pipe 3<SP>1</SP>. As shown, a perforated cone frustum 8 is mounted in the shell to form a convergent outlet duct. An exhaust pipe 3 leading from the engine projects a third of the way into the shell and together with a number of discs 11 forms a series of pneumatic buffers 10, the portion of the pipe 3 projecting into the shell being perforated at 12.
