953,720. Intake or exhaust silencers. L. M. BALLAMY. Oct. 23, 1962 [July 24, 1961], No. 26779/61. Heading F1B. An inlet or exhaust silencer comprises an annular cylindrical chamber 10 with a tangential inlet slot 14, the gases escaping through a slot 15 in the inner wall 12. In any exhaust interior, Fig. 1 the gases enter a longitudinal chamber 13 from which they flow through the inlet slot 14 and along the inner pipe 12 to a tail pipe 19. The chamber 13 may be omitted and the exhaust pipe 17 arranged tangentially of the chamber 10. When used as an intake silencer, one or more carburetters may be connected to the chamber 13 and the pipe 19 is connected to the engine induction pipe.
