Abstract

Appts. for neutralising or oxidising unburnt components of, exhaust gases from an internal combustion engine of the known type comprising a cylindrical body in the interior of which a catalytic reactor closed at one end is fitted, the interior of the reactor being connected to the inlet, while an annular space between the body and the reactor communicates with the outlet of the appts., incorporating the novel features whereby (i) the inlet and outlet are provided on one end of the cylindrical body and (ii) the reactor is covered at its open end by a ring which throttles the gas flow reaching the annular space by passing through the catalytic reactor. Ensures a uniform flow through the catalytic reactor, thereby eliminating hot spots and increasing the length of life of the appts.
