Class 7(2) An engine, eg. a Vee-engine at the rear of a vehicle, has cylinder groups 1, 2 respectively discharging via pipes 8, 9 to like silencers 4, 3 all their exhaust gases except a small portion bled off via orifices 8<SP>1</SP>, 9' to the silencers 3, 4 respectively The pipes 8, 9 and silencer outlet pipes 5, 6 are open-ended and have orifices 11 communicating with silencer sub-divisions 10.
