879,561. Regulating fuel and air supply to furnaces. SOC. D'ETUDE DE VEHICULES. Feb. 4, 1960 [Feb. 4, 1959; Feb. 10, 1959; Feb. 13, 1959], No. 3995/60. Class 51 (1). The air blower 6 and fuel pump 7 of a flashtype steam generator 1 are driven by a turbine 5 connected between the boiler 1 and the point of use of the steam. Parallel valves 8, 8<SP>1</SP> enable more or less of the steam to by-pass the turbine 5, the first valve 8 closing on a given fall in the pressure pv downstream of the turbine 5, and the second valve 81 closing on a further fall in the pressure. The closing of the valves increases the power applied to the turbine 5 and hence the air and fuel supply and the steam pressure generated in the boiler. A three-way cock 19 to return fuel to the storage tank and linked dampers 13, 14 controlling the air supply and an air vent 17 are operated to shut off the boiler without allowing the turbine 5 to race in the event of a sudden increase in the pressure generated in the boiler or downstream of the turbine 5. A valve 21 in the steam line beyond the turbine 5 closes this line if the pressure in it drops so far that the pressure of fuel feed is sufficient to overcome a spring 25, as in the event of a fracture of the steam line.
