Abstract

Feedwater, controlling.- The feedwater, fuel and air supplies of a high-pressure boiler having a small water-storage space are preliminarily regulated in accordance with the load on the boiler and are subsequently regulated in accordance with the steam temperature and pressure. The feedwater and fuel supply valves 7, 8 are controlled by electrical regulators 9 influenced by the output of an electric generator 5 driven by an engine 4 supplied with steam from the boiler 2. When a supply valve is automatically opened upon an in. crease in the load, the quantity of water or fuel flowing past a baffle 10 in the supply pipe is increased until the increased pressure in the pipe acting downwardly on a piston 12 counterbalances the increased upward pressure of an electrical regulator 9. The fulcrum of the lever pressed upwardly by a regulator 9 is moved in accordance with variations in the steam pressure or temperature by a piston device 14 connected to the boiler steam space or to a thermostat 15 in the steam pipe. The electrical regulators may be replaced by regulators operated by the engine governor, the throttle valve or a device for measuring the quantity of steam flowing to the engine.
