Abstract
227,434. Sulzer FrÞres Soc. Anon. Jan. 12, 1924, [Convention date]. Compound &c. engines. -In steam power plant wherein a high-pressure engine b exhausts into a generator d from which a medium pressure engine f is supplied, the pressure and temperature of steam in the high - pressure, coiled-pipe generator a is maintained substantially constant, and the firing is regulated so as to maintain the pressure in the generator d which is heated by the waste gases from generator a substantially constant. The steam pressure in generator a is maintained constant by a regulator g controlling the valve-gear of the engine b in conjunction with a firing regulator controlled by the pressure in generator d. A temperature regulator h controls the feed pump k of the generator a, the supply-valve opening increasing with rise of temperature. The steam supply to engine b varies with the pressure in the generator a. The power of the engine b is independent of the plant load and depends upon the heat supplied to the generator a and the back pressure, the additional power required being supplied by the governor-controlled engine f. The generator d has a large water space to permit power fluctuations, and has a pressure regulator l which actuates a heat-controlling device m associated with the generator a, the heat being increased with fall of pressure and vice versa. The generator d may have additional firing means, or in lieu thereof a number of generators may be used heated in part by the waste gases from the generator a and in part by their own furnaces, or a generator with a small water space and an accumulator may be used. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises the use of one or two turbines in lieu of one or both of the engines b, f respectively, or the use of a boiler acting as a superheater in lieu of boiler d, one engine element carrying a heavy flywheel. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
