Abstract
797,725. Steam turbines. METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Feb. 4, 1955 [Feb. 9, 1954], No. 3802/54. Drawings to Specification. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XL (a)] A power plant comprises a nuclear reactor cooled by a heat carrier which passes through a cascaded arrangement of boilers operating at different pressures wherein heat is transferred from the heat carrier to motive fluid supplies for a prime mover, e.g. a steam turbine, and a furnace heated boiler for supplying additional motive fluid to the prime mover when the latter's requirements exceed the output of the reactor heated boilers. The particular embodiment described comprises the system particularly described in Specification 778,941, [Group XXX], with the addition of an extra governor controlled turbine inlet valve connected to the furnace heated boiler and which, when the turbine demand exceeds the steam output from the reactor heated boilers and the turbine speed tends to drop accordingly, is opened by the governor to supply additional steam to the turbine and when the turbine load falls, and the speed rises, is closed. An additional furnace heater may be provided for the heat carrier passing to the boilers.
