Abstract

841,920. Nuclear reactors. ESCHER WYSS A. G. Jan. 30, 1958 [Feb. 5, 1957], No. 3145/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(4). In a nuclear power plant, the reactor may supply both steam and gas turbines simultaneously with working fluid. In one embodiment, the gas, helium or carbon dioxide, is at a lower pressure and higher temperature than the steam, and superheats the steam in a heat exchanger between the reactor and steam turbine. Alternatively, the steam is not produced directly in the reactor but is generated in a second heat exchanger, heated by the reactor through a pressurised water circuit, and is superheated as in the first embodiment by the gas circuit. In further embodiments, the plant comprises only a steam turbine which is fed from the reactor with two separate supplies of high and low pressure steam, the latter superheating the former through a heat exchanger.
