679,083. Nuclear reactors. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. Dec. 28, 1950 [Nov. 30, 1950], No. 31499/50. Class 39 (iv). [Also in Group XXVI] The heat produced in a nuclear reactor 1 is conveyed from the reactor by a primary heat carrier such as bismuth or helium to a heat exchanger 6 where it is transferred to water to form saturated steam which is superheated in a separate fuel fired superheater 9 and then expanded to produce work in a turbine 15. A shielding wall is provided between the reactor and the superheater. The saturated steam may be led direct to the superheater as shown in Fig. 1 or it may be superheated in a second heat exchanger by a medium heated in the superheater and an additional shielding wall provided between the second heat exchanger and the superheater.
