Abstract

882,689. Nuclear power plant. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. March 9, 1959 [March 7, 1958], No. 8076/59. Class 39(4) A pressurized water reactor has an additional cooling circuit in which a gaseous medium is heated for use in superheating steam produced by the main cooling circuit. In the Figure, pressurized water coolant heats a boiler 4 and steam, heated in an outer zone of the reactor core, heats a superheater 5. The steam circuit is at a slightly higher pressure than the pressurized water circuit; a pressure maintaining vessel 28 is provided. Instead of steam, a rare gas may be used as the additional coolant. The right- and left-hand halves of the reactor shown illustrate two core arrangements; that on the right is suitable for light water, that on the left for heavy water.
