[Also in Group XIII] A heterogeneous reactor 1 supplies its heat by fluid flowing through pipes 2 to a steam generator 3, the steam being directed to a turbine 5 exhausting to a condenser 7, the condensate flowing through preheaters 11 . . . 18 to a reservoir 19 whence it is returned to the reactor by a pump 20. Preheaters 11, 13, 15, 17, 18 are heated by steam bled off from the turbine through pipes 21, whereas preheaters 16, 14, 12 are heated by a coolant for the moderator which flows through pipes 22 and is returned from a reservoir 23 to the reactor by a pump 24. If the moderator is liquid or gaseous it may itself constitute the medium flowing through pipes 22.
