Abstract

844,408. Nuclear reactors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Sept. 10, 1958 [Sept. 25, 1957], No. 30165/57. Class 39(4). [Also in Groups XIII and XXVI] Steam raising plant for use with a reactor comprises a dual pressure steam raising unit 2 into which the heat transfer fluid (e.g. carbon dioxide gas) enters at 1, the gas being returned to the reactor through a duct 5 by a blower 4. Water from a source 6 flows through economisers 7 to high pressure steam drum 8 and low pressure steam drum 9 and is heated by high and low pressure evaporators 10, 13. High pressure steam from superheater 11 flows through a conduit 12, junction 20 and branch 19 to a turbine 18 driving the blower 4. The turbine exhaust has a pressure equal to that of the steam from low pressure evaporator 13 and this exhaust is mixed with the low pressure steam at a junction 14 prior to entering a superheater 15. The low pressure steam is directed through a conduit 16 to the low pressure turbine 24 of a turboalternator 22, high pressure steam from the junction 20 passing to the high pressure turbine 23. The exhaust from turbine 23 is directed through a duct 28 to an intermediate stage of the turbine 24. The blower 4 may be situated within the unit 2 as in Specification 789,482.
