Abstract
832,877. Turbines. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. March 6, 1958 [March 8, 1957; April 15, 1957], No. 7213/58. Class 110 (3). [Also in Groups XIII and XL (a)] Power plant for a gas-cooled reactor 1 in which steam is generated and supplied to a multi-stage turbine 41 includes an economizer 19 heated by the gas flow through a pressure vessel 3, the heated water from the economizer being directed partly to a steam and water drum 15 connected to a low-pressure steam generating heat exchanger 17 and partly to a heater exchanger 47 where it heats the steam in its passage from the low-pressure turbine stage 41L to the very low-pressure stage 41VL. The hot gas enters the top of the vessel 3 through a duct 5 and gives up its heat also to a superheater 35 receiving steam from a drum 27, a high-pressure steam generating heat exchanger 29, an economizer 31 receiving water from the drum 15 and a superheater 23. The highpressure steam passes along a main 37 to the high-pressure stage 41H of the turbine, the lower pressure steam passing along a main 25 to the turbine stage 41L. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the low-pressure superheater 23 is omitted and part of the output from the economizer 31 is directed to a heatexchanger similar to the exchanger 47 and which gives further heat to the steam on its passage from the exchanger 47 to the turbine stage 41VL.
