In a boiling water reactor, the water is first vaporized in the outer section 8 and then superheated in the centre section 10, both enclosed in pressure vessel 4. The flow path is formed by the ceramic concentric cylinders 7, 9, and the fuel concentration in section 10 is higher than in 8. Control rods, not shown, pass through both 8, 10.
