844,401. Nuclear reactors. UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. June 13, 1958 [June 17, 1957], No. 18995/57. Class 39(4). Thermal stresses in reactor pressure vessels are reduced by making the support a pressure chamber continuous with the interior of the vessel and flowing coolant into the vessel through the support. A pressure vessel 1 is supported by a pressure containing chamber 3 at a flange 4 ; the chamber is open to the pressure vessel but closed externally apart from coolant inlets 9. The chamber also supports a reactor core 14 and reflector 15 on a grid 7 through a support structure 8. The pressure vessel has internal lagging 11.
